Up to 116,000 jobs could be lost across the South West in the next 5 years, according to a new report.
The Regional Development Agency claim that'll be the impact here, if the government pushes through predicted 20% cutbacks in the public sector soon.
The losses would affect staff at Devon's schools, hospitals, councils, universities, police force and other institutions - like the Met Office in Exeter, or our military bases around the county.
Their calculations are based on the premise around half a million people work in the public sector across the region, and that there would inevitably be a knock-on effect in terms of job losses in the private sector as well.
